Internships can take place in person or remotely. However, should the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic change, we may request organisations to transition interns to remote work, in line with relevant government guidance.

Please complete the fields below to inform the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of your intention to undertake the ENGR90033 Internship subject with your own self-sourced position.

It is important that you check your eligibility for this subject via the handbook and by speaking to a Course Advisor in Stop 1.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE. STUDENT VISAS::
The government has made a change to the work rights attached to student visas. As a result, international students can only work up to 48 hours per fortnight.

Therefore, at present, international students can plan for, and work, for only 24 hours per week as part of their internship.

Position Details

Please provide an overview of the role and responsibilities that you will be undertaking, an overview of the organisation and the team you will be working within. Please provide detailed information about the position. Please add all information from a position description if you have one. The internship needs to offer students a more hands-on (practical) opportunity to learn from industry and provide more exposure to day to day operations/problems of an organisation. Research roles will not be considered.

Please indicate when you will be commencing your internship with your host organisation. Students can start 2 weeks before semester start date and can work 2 weeks beyond semester end date.


The start and end dates must align within the  semester dates to be counted toward internship hours (320 - 350)
Students can start 2 weeks before semester start date and can work 2 weeks beyond semester end date, if the internship is more than  10 weeks - up to 16 weeks.
If the internship is less than 10 weeks it must be completed in the semester teaching dates - (no allowances)

Please indicate when you will conclude your internship. Internship commencement and conclusion dates must roughly align to the semester you are wishing to undertake, for a total period of 10-16 weeks and 320-350 hours. If you are undertaking a paid position that extends beyond 350 hours, please choose start and end dates that cover an approximate 320 - 350 hour time frame.
This means that you can undertake minimum of 2.6 days (20 hours) and a maximum of 5 days (38-40 hours) per week.

Please ensure the internship does NOT exceed 350 hours. Hours per week to be approximately 20 - 38 hours.

An OHS Management System or Plan is a set of formally documented plans, actions and procedures to systematically manage health and safety in the workplace.

An OHS Management System is a certified set of plans, actions and procedures to systematically manage health and safety in the workplace. Larger organisations tend to have them; many smaller organisations don't. If you don't have one, don't worry. We are also happy to accept a copy of your OHS policy (just click no and the system will direct you accordingly).

Young workers/student interns come from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. All workers are at risk of workplace injury or illness if their workplace fails to ensure equipment and systems of work are safe and without risks to health. Please note that you are eligible to source your own internship for the ENGR90033 Internship subject if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must be enrolled in the Master of Engineering, Master of Information Systems or Master of Information Technology (all majors, except applications from students enrolled in some of the with Business Stream, please check the handbook for your eligible Masters program)
  • You must have at least 25 points available for an ELECTIVE subject in your degree
  • You must not have completed another internship subject within your Masters course. Disallowed subject combinations are listed in the Handbook.
