Brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) holds immense promise to restore movement and communication in people with severe paralysis. However, seamless communication between the human brain to external devices has not yet been achieved. Closed-loop BMI is one where the controller learns to use a BCI while receiving feedback on their control directly to the brain through neural stimulation. We are developing novel technology that can perform recording from and stimulation of the brain using micromachined novel neural prostheses.
