This project aims to explore the architecture of terabit transport using self-coherent detection that addresses the tight constraints of power, space and cost in data centres. This project expects to create new knowledge in coherent detection based on optical equalization rather than conventional power-hungry electronic equalization. Expected outcomes of this project include advanced architecture of polarization effect equalizers and all-optical equalization algorithms as well as enhanced international collaboration with top experts in optical communications. This should provide benefits of maintaining Australia’s high reputation in ICT arena as well as providing high-quality training for Research Fellows and PhD students.
