A student is sought for an industrially focused PhD project on dairy product structure with Arla. 

The student will develop and apply microstructural techniques to assess dairy products, as well as the growth of microbiological strains relevant to product spoilage. 

Research will be conducted in the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute (http://www.bio21.unimelb.edu.au/) and The Melbourne School of Engineering (https://eng.unimelb.edu.au/) with some international travel to Denmark.    

The successful student will have an excellent track record in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or a related discipline and be able to effectively communicate with both academic and industrial teams. 

They will be interested in new state of the art microscopy techniques, as well as the development of process solutions that can deliver impact within industry. 

Prior experience with microscopy, analytical techniques or experience within industry is advantageous but not a requirement.  Other desirable skills include experience in food microbiology, practical experience in culturing microbes and background study in dairy science and/or technology. 

The successful candidate will also be both diligent and passionate about research.
