The Smart Hospital project seeks to develop novel interactive technologies to improve hospitals' operations and safety. This is an umbrella project, within which a number of individual technologies are being developed. For example, the project has developed a smart pillbox (which automatically identifies any pill using its chemical signature), a smart IV line (which automatically monitors the drug and concentration within an IV line), is conducting indoor mobility tracking to optimise how operating theaters are utilised, and is developing a handwash detection system to verify that staff members wash their hands appropriately. The project seeks to pursue further ideas that would enhance how hospitals operate, and we are working in multiple hospitals in Melbourne to develop and validate our ideas.
