Ship navigation to port facilities requires predictions about ship response and port access clearance. These predictions are questionable due to limitations in present environmental models making navigation risky, particularly in tidal inlets where interaction between waves and tides is strong. This project aims to use new ocean physics to develop an integrated modelling system to improve navigational aid systems and maritime safety whilst providing economic benefits to shipping.
